We're Here!!

Easiest and most relaxing day yet, driving from Hatchet to Smoot. Several celebratory glasses of wine later, here's a recap of the day.

Brandy, at the Hatchet Resort, took wonderful care of us, checking us out and sending us along. Non-sequitor of the morning was when a gentleman appeared in his Lincoln, asked to fill up, then asked for someone to put some air in his tires. Informed by Brandy that no one could do that he said, "Then could I get some yogurt?" No wonder they think we're all boobs!!

Our first destination was Jackson -- ski town and tourist mecca below Grand Teton. We stopped there to try and help the local economy and eat.

Here's Debra at lunch. A study in blues.

Then it was on to Smoot, via more beautiful scenery and lovely towns like Afton.

And then we arrived at what Doug calls his cabin. Cabin my foot! Beautiful home on five acres with exceptional guest accommodations.

Here's proof, including Doug's companion Dory. We settled in and cooked chili for dinner. Doug invited some friends over so we had a chance to meet some of his pals and hear all sorts of stories about his antics.

Too much fun! I'm sorry for any of you who didn't manage to make it out here because it's a heavenly spot and Doug's a most generous host.

I'll have to report on the shooting stars tomorrow. For now, I leave you with a photo of how the sky looked as the first stars began to appear. Note that the crescent moon (which you might be able to see) was going down below the mountain and there's not a cloud in the sky. Now to bundle up to be outside for the show.

  1. That sky looks quite promising for shooting star action. We breathlessly await the update. I did not see any report on the Penfold's wine that I know a thing or two about. Perhaps that is too mundane for a blog that literally covers so much ground every day!

  2. Wow --- you made it to Smoot. I remember eons ago when you were starting to plan this epic voyage, kind of loosely based around this stellar event!!! And now look at you! There and ready for star gazing.

  5. Glad you set me straight, Susan! I was laboring under the misapprehension that "Smoot" was a person :)
