The Promised Land? it's Highway 12

What a happy day today! I believe we drove the most beautiful stretch of road I've ever seen. If you have a bucket list, you must add this. If you don't have a bucket list, start one now and put it at the top of your list.

Bonnie started the day studying the map, making sure she knew every turn and twist. By the way, notice how clean the car still is!!

We drove into Capitol Reef a ways, just to take a better look. Stunning rock formations, as you can see.

Then it was on to Highway 12 and the most incredible few hours of our lives. Here are some photos that might give you a tiny idea of what it's like.

I don't have much else to report. Today was all driving through jaw dropping scenery, wending our way from one magnificent venue to another. We barely spoke, we were both so awestruck with what we were viewing. We stopped for lunch at a wonderful spot (the Kiva Koffehouse) and had delicious bean soup and split a quesadilla of summer squash, spinach, and pepperjack cheese. All afternoon it was top down, temperature climbing (made it up to 103!), not a cloud in the sky. What a day!

We arrived in Zion around 4PM. Here's what the approach looks like.

Ohmygod, it was scorching when we arrived! How hot was it? Well, it was so hot that even I went into the pool.

Another fabulous dinner, this time at the Whiptail Grill, wonderful food served at a vaguely made over gas station. Goat cheese chile relleno appetizer (pictured below), carne asada and fish tacos. Yum yum!

If we ever wake up and get going, we'll brave the park tomorrow. If it's as unbearably hot as today, it will be a short day with a long siesta.

  1. The food is looking and sounding much better then I remember. Just another reason to get on the road.

  3. Hi Susan and Bonnie: Just returned from a lazy week at the beach with my Sicilian cousins. Tutti va bene!!! We had a wonderful time, speaking in Italian and playing Scrabble, the Italian version.

Your trip sounds and looks fabulous. The food is also sounding delicious. I am just now catching up on your last 4 blogs. Stay safe and enjoy a drink for Steve tomorrow, on his birthday. Love, Pat
